Burned by (The Always Fabulous) Ellen Hopkins

First off, I'm so excited to be writing my first post for my new blog!  I hope somebody actually decides to read it! =)

Anyways, enough with the small talk, let's get down to business.

Author: Ellen Hopkins
Release Date: March 28, 2006
Publisher: Margaret K. McElderry Books
Pages: 532
Source: Bought
[add on Goodreads]
Summary: Raised in a religious -- yet abusive -- family, Pattyn Von Stratten starts asking questions -- about God, a woman's role, sex, love. She experiences the first stirrings of passion, but when her father catches her in a compromising position, events spiral out of control. Pattyn is sent to live with an aunt in the wilds of Nevada to find salvation and redemption. What she finds instead is love and acceptance -- until she realizes that her old demons will not let her go.

There are simply no words to truly describe the amazing Ellen Hopkins.  First off, she had me hooked after I read Identical.  Since this post is not about that book, I'll only say if you haven't read it, you need to drop everything RIGHT NOW, and pick it up.  I can assure you it will only take a couple of days to read.

Burned.  With that last page, my mind was almost numb from the intense amounts of emotions Ms. Hopkins had managed to pull from me in such a short about of time.  I felt blown away at how she always manages to take me by surprise in her endings.  For all of you readers out there that avoid reality in cozy books, you should probably steer clear.  For you real readers out there that believe that books should make you think, pull you in, and throw you back out with a whole different perspective, you must sink your teeth into Burned, so to speak.

  1. I'm so glad you decided to start a blog! I still need to read her YA series so I can better understand your love for her books :-)

Also, Tyler Hilton rocks. He's a really sweet guy and he can sing!

  2. Although I own a couple of Hopkins' books, I have yet to read one. I know she writes about intense topics and I have to be in the mode for that. I am not averse to emotional, realistic reads. Also, her signature style is verse, a first for me.

Thanks for your review. This comment is an entry for Love in Bloom.
