Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Favorite Beginnings/Endings In Books (talk about books that started or ended just perfectly or with a bang OR you could do specific opening lines or last lines -- however you want to do it!)

This meme is hosted by the lovely ladies at The Broke and the Bookish.  Go check them out!

Great Beginning Lines:

1.  Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar: "It was a queer, sultry summer, the summer they electrocuted the Rosenbergs, and I didn't know what I was doing in New York."

2.  Rick Riordan's The Last Olympian: "The end of the world started when a pegasus landed on the hood of my car."

3.  Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice: "It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife."

4.  Lauren Oliver's Delirium: "It's been sixty-four years since the president and the Consortium identified love as a disease, and forty-three since the scientists perfected a cure."

5.  John Green's The Fault in Our Stars"Late in the winter of my seventeenth year, my mother decided I was depressed, presumably because I rarely left the house, spent quite a lot of time in bed, read the same book over and over, ate infrequently, and devoted quite a bit of my abundant free time to thinking about death."
Great Ending Lines:

6. The Summer of Firsts and Lasts by Terra Elan McVoy: "There are things to fix and to mend, and we'll probably have more broken between us in the future, but right now we're leaving the way we would choose to do most things, the only and best way we can--together."

7. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins: "Because I was right. For the two of us, home isn't a place. It's a person. And we're finally home." (I know it's not one sentence, but you needed all of them for it to make sense!)

8. The Dark and Hollow Places by Carrie Ryan: "He said it was a place where possibilities were endless and hope stretched as far as the horizon. And now, staring at the pure endlessness of it, I know it to be true."

9. Shine by Jeri Smith-Ready: "I stepped into his arms, under the glow of the high northern sun. 'I have good news.'" (This will makes sense to those of you who've read this amazing series!)

10. Kissed by an Angel by Elizabeth Chandler: "Will laughed. 'Okay, okay, that was a lie. But this is the truth. The angels will swear to it,' he said, then pulled her down for a kiss."

  1. Awesome choices! I've always loved the beginning of The Bell Jar. I could read the first few paragraphs forever.
I forgot how awesome the opening to The Fault in Our Stars was and the ending to Anna and the French Kiss. I love that quote. =)
